Woman shrinks thyroid nodules with pure nutrition, not meds
(STR, EPA / April 16, 2013) Also By David Pierson December 18, 2013, 4:33 p.m. A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers is trying to bar Chinese poultry from federal school lunch and other nutrition programs because of China's poor record on food safety. On Wednesday, 12 Democratic representatives and two Republicans called for language in the 2014 agriculture appropriations bill to ensure that chicken processed in China is not included in the National School Lunch, School Breakfast, Child and Adult Care Food and Summer Food Service programs. "Children are our most vulnerable population with respect to food-borne illnesses and sensitivity to potentially dangerous chemicals," the lawmakers said in a letter to fellow members of Congress . "Given China's demonstrably poor food safety record, we believe it is unacceptable to take unnecessary risks with the health of American schoolchildren." The U.S. Department of Agriculture approved the import of Chinese-processed poultry this year on the condition the poultry was not hatched and raised in China. Chinese producers are now working toward garnering approval to export poultry to the U.S. that's raised and slaughtered in China. A deal is being viewed as a quid pro quo to open the massive Chinese market for U.S.
Nutrition Business Journal Predicts Dietary Supplements Face Big Opportunities & Risks
I recommend that people facing challenging health issues should find a doctor, preferably a doctor trained in complementary medicine (ACAM certified) or a naturopathic doctor that your regular doctor is willing to work with. I am a certified nutritional health coach. I work with people on making changes in their diet and lifestyle, and teaching new ways of eating, cooking and preparing food that are delicious and nutritious. My protocol included the following: Modified Citrus Pectin - For two weeks, took six capsules, three times a day. Zeolites - For two weeks, took two capsules every six hours and then slowed down to two-four caps a day. Later bought the powder and now add a scoop to my smoothie in the morning for maintenance. Selenium - Increased intake by eating four-five Brazil nuts several mornings each week. I routinely take one 200mcg capsule of selenium per day. Stopped eating gluten and dairy (with the exception of a few slips) and reduced sugar intake. Added a daily breakfast porridge of pumpkin seeds, chia seeds , flax seeds, cashews, coconut and cinnamon. Daily smoothie with coconut water, scoop of green powder (such as Tonic Alchemy), blueberries, banana, one dropper for goji berry and schizandra berry drops, one dropper for reishi mushroom extract, 1/2 tsp of maca powder, and stevia.

The industry needs to get right in the consumer psyche before those consumers lose the faith." In a freely downloadable infographic ( http://newhope360.com/supplements/infographic-highlights-2013-supplement-business-report ), NBJ breaks the market down into three key trends - Whole-food Supplements, Consolidation and Personalization: Whole-food Supplements The advance of supplement formulations grounded in whole foods with light-as-a-feather processing presents real opportunity for the industry to realign itself with consumers. In 2013, the whole-food supplement market has estimated sales of $1.5 billion, with annual growth rates that nearly double the overall market. Consolidation As supplements translate into big business, insiders fear the impact to innovation and authenticity with leading brands landing in the hands of large pharma and consumer packaged goods (CPG) companies. According to estimates, the industry could look very different in a few years' time, with pharma accounting for 40 percent ownership of the industry and CPG accounting for 8 percent. Personalization The future of nutrition as a true therapy for lifestyle-based illness rests in personalization, which combines genomics with deep bloodwork to target disease before it sets in. In the coming year, expect to hear more about "right medicine, right patient, right time" and expect smart supplement companies to respond in kind with personalized product offerings. Also watch for ancillary industries like app development and big data analytics to grow increasingly interested in the supplement space. The infographic and related trends are excerpted from NBJ's 2013 Supplement Business Report, available at newhope360.com/nbj-2013-supplement-business-report.
